Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to the ppp component of the Linux kernel, where the functions
ppp read() and ppp write() in drivers/net/ppp/ppp generic.c have insufficient input validation. This could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service. The ppp async encode() function assumes valid LCP packets, but the addition of ppp check packet() ensures that LCP packets have an actual body beyond the PPP LCP header bytes, rejecting claimed-as-LCP but actually malformed data otherwise.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
