CVE-2024-42231

CVSS v2.0

7.5

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is related to the calculation of available free space in the btrfs file system when operating in zoned mode. The logic is incorrect in two places: the calculation of data chunk size and the alignment of the result avail. This can lead to less pressure on the async metadata reclaim process, resulting in less async reclaim work and potentially ending up in ENOSPC (no space left on device) errors, especially in nearly full states with large zone size devices.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
