Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Lenovo preloaded Windows 7 and 8 operating systems from 2012 to 2014
Description
A vulnerability was reported in a system recovery bootloader that could allow a privileged attacker with local access to modify the boot manager and escalate privileges. The vulnerability is related to errors in processing input data, which could allow an attacker to bypass existing security restrictions and increase their privileges.
Recommendations
For Lenovo preloaded Windows 7 and 8 operating systems from 2012 to 2014, consider restricting local access to minimize the risk of exploitation until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, limit the use of the system recovery bootloader to reduce the potential for privilege escalation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
