Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved. The issue is related to the
can: bcm module, where the bo->bcm proc read is not cleared after remove proc entry(). This can trigger unnecessary remove proc entry() calls in bcm release(). The vulnerability was reported by syzbot, which detected a warning in bcm release(). The issue occurs when a socket is closed without a second connect() call after the connected device has been unregistered.Recommendations
To resolve the issue, update the Linux kernel to version 6.6.58 or later.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
bcm module until a patch is available.
Restrict access to the can: bcm module to minimize the risk of exploitation.Exploit
