Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58
Description
A null pointer dereference issue in the Linux kernel's media component, specifically in Mediatek's vcodec, has been resolved. The issue was caused by a smatch static checker warning on vdec h264 req multi if.c, which led to a kernel crash when fb was NULL.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 6.6.58, update to version 6.6.58 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the vulnerable media decoder component until a patch is available. Restrict access to the
vdec h264 req multi if.c function to minimize the risk of exploitation.Exploit
