CVE-2024-4984

CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 22.6
Description: The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the display name author meta due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The vulnerability poses a risk to all data, including WordPress core content, and affects user input in the sprintf() function.
Recommendations: For Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 22.6: Update to a version higher than 22.6 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the display name author meta to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, limiting contributor-level access and above can help reduce the attack surface until a patch is applied.
