Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58
Description:
The issue arises when Ext4 throws a -EBADMSG error through
ext4 readdir due to a checksum error, resulting in a WARNING. This occurs because nfsd does not map EBADMSG to nfserr io. The error is triggered in the nfsd buffered readdir function, specifically when ext4 readdir returns an error. Technical details about the issue include the involvement of nfserrno and the nfsd buffered readdir function.Recommendations:
To resolve the issue, update the Linux kernel to version 6.6.58 or later. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the
nfsd buffered readdir function until a patch is available. Additionally, ensure that any configuration changes related to NFS and Ext4 are reviewed and updated according to the latest recommendations.Exploit
