Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58
Description:
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, specifically in the fbdev: efifb component, where the driver core can register and cleanup sysfs groups. This change simplifies error handling and cleanup, and avoids a Use After Free (UAF) race during unregistering, where sysctl attributes were usable after the info struct was freed.
Recommendations:
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58, update to version 6.6.58 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the vulnerable sysfs groups until a patch is available. Restrict access to the vulnerable fbdev: efifb component to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the sysctl attributes in the affected sysfs groups until the issue is resolved.
