Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58
Description:
A vulnerability has been resolved in the Linux kernel, specifically in the blk iocost component, where out of bound shifts were caught by UBSAN in the
ioc forgive debts() function. The issue occurred due to shift exponents being too large for 64-bit type 'u64'. The actual impact of this issue was not identified, but a fix was proposed to prevent undefined behavior by precalculating the exponent before using it in shift operations.Recommendations:
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58, update to version 6.6.58 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the
blk iocost component until a patch is available.Exploit
