Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58
Description:
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, related to a timeout during suspend mode in the Raspberry Pi power driver. The issue occurs because the IRQ of the underlying BCM2835 mailbox is disabled during the noirq suspend phase, causing the
rpi firmware property list() function to run into a timeout. To fix this, the IRQF NO SUSPEND flag is set for the mailbox IRQ to keep it enabled during the suspend-resume cycle.Recommendations:
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58, update to version 6.6.58 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
rpi firmware property list() function until a patch is available. Restrict access to the vulnerable bcm2835 mailbox module to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the rpi firmware property list() function in suspend mode until the issue is resolved.Exploit
