CVE-2024-50222

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.61
Description: The issue is related to the copy page from iter atomic() function in the Linux kernel, which can cause a warning and then hang when CONFIG DEBUG KMAP LOCAL FORCE MAP is enabled with highmem on huge=always tmpfs. The problem occurs on x86 32 systems and is interruptible. The copy page from iter atomic() function is called by generic perform write() and shmem file write iter(). The estimated number of potentially affected devices is not specified.
Recommendations: For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.61, update to version 6.6.61 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the CONFIG DEBUG KMAP LOCAL FORCE MAP configuration option until a patch is available. Restrict access to the copy page from iter atomic() function to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the highmem option with huge=always tmpfs on x86 32 systems until the issue is resolved.
