Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue concerns the media: dvbdev component in the Linux kernel, where a static variable is used to store dvb minors. The behavior depends on whether CONFIG DVB DYNAMIC MINORS is set or not. When not set, dvb register device() does not check for boundaries, relying on previous calls to dvb register adapter() for enforcement. Similarly, dvb device open() assumes that register functions have already performed the necessary checks. This approach can be fragile if devices use different calls, generating warnings on static check analyzers like Coverity. The issue is related to the risk of out of memory access.
