Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.12.0
Description
A NULL pointer dereference issue has been identified in the Linux kernel, specifically in the
crypto aead setkey() function. This issue arises when the SMB2 GLOBAL CAP ENCRYPTION flag is set in the negotiate response, and the client uses AES-128-CCM as the default cipher. The problem occurs because the @server->cipher type check is always false for SMB3.02, leading to a null pointer dereference. The estimated number of potentially affected devices worldwide is not specified.Technical details about exploitation include:
- The vulnerable function is
crypto aead setkey(). - The
smb3 init transform rq()function is involved in the call trace. - The
SMB2 GLOBAL CAP ENCRYPTIONflag is set in the negotiate response. - The client uses AES-128-CCM as the default cipher.
Recommendations
