Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, involving IPv6 and device removal. The issue occurred during device removal in the pmtu.sh self-test, causing an aperiodic hangup. The problem was found to be related to the nexthop in the originating fib6 info, which held a reference to the device. To fix this, the fib6 info cleanup was moved into ip6 dst ifdown(). Testing showed that an unpatched kernel would experience a splat every ~10 iterations when running the pmtu.sh cleanup ipv6 exception test in a tight loop.
