CVE-2024-5937
CVSS v3.1
6.4
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
The Simple Alert Boxes plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.4.0
Description:
The issue arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the plugin's Alert shortcode, allowing authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages. These scripts will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations:
For versions up to, and including, 1.4.0, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue in the Alert shortcode.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Alert shortcode for users with contributor-level access and above until a patch is available.
Fix
