CVE-2024-6870
CVSS v3.1
6.4
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
The Responsive Lightbox & Gallery plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.4.7
Description
The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via file uploads due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, affecting the "rl upload image" AJAX endpoint. This allows authenticated attackers with Author-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses the 3gp2 file.
Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 2.4.7, update the plugin to the latest patched version immediately to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the "rl upload image" AJAX endpoint until a patch is available. Additionally, restricting file uploads to only necessary users can help minimize the risk of exploitation.
Fix
