Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Empowerment theme for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.0.2
Description
The Empowerment theme for WordPress is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection via deserialization of untrusted input. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to inject a PHP Object. No known POP chain is present in the vulnerable software. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, it could allow the attacker to delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code.
Recommendations
For Empowerment theme for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.0.2, consider updating to a version above 1.0.2 to mitigate the risk of PHP Object Injection.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the deserialization of untrusted input until a patch is available.
Avoid using the Empowerment theme for WordPress with additional plugins or themes that may introduce a POP chain, until the issue is resolved.
Fix
Deserialization of Untrusted Data
