Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
MainWP Child Reports plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.2
Description
The issue is due to missing or incorrect nonce validation on the
network options action() function, making it possible for unauthenticated attackers to update arbitrary options. This can be leveraged for privilege escalation via a forged request if an attacker can trick a site administrator into performing an action, such as clicking on a link. The issue is only exploitable on multisite instances.Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 2.2, consider disabling the
network options action() function until a patch is available to prevent exploitation. Restrict access to the plugin's functionality on multisite instances to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the plugin on multisite instances until the issue is resolved.Fix
