CVE-2024-8486

CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: Shortcodes and extra features for Phlox theme plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.16.3
Description: The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the url parameter in the Modern Heading and Icon Picker widgets. This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages. These scripts will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations: For versions up to, and including, 2.16.3, update to a version later than 2.16.3 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Modern Heading and Icon Picker widgets to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, restrict the use of the url parameter in these widgets until a patch is available.
