CVE-2024-8989

CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: Stars Testimonials plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 3.3.1
Description: The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting in the Stars Testimonials plugin for WordPress. This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the stars testimonials shortcode. Authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above can inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations: For versions up to, and including, 3.3.1, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue in the stars testimonials shortcode. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the stars testimonials shortcode for users with contributor-level access and above until a patch is available.
