Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Arconix Shortcodes plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.1.12
Description
The Arconix Shortcodes plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's 'button' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 2.1.12, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
button shortcode until a patch is available.
Restrict access to the plugin's settings to minimize the risk of exploitation.Fix
