CVSS v3.1

7.4

High

VectorAV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions HDF5 Library versions 1.14.3 and earlier
Description The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in the H5T copy reopen() function in the H5T.c file of the HDF5 Library. This overflow can result in the corruption of the instruction pointer. The exploitation of this issue may allow an attacker to impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information.
Recommendations For HDF5 Library versions 1.14.3 and earlier, consider disabling the H5T copy reopen() function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the H5T.c file to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
