Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
After Effects versions 23.6.6, 24.5 and earlier
Description
The issue is related to a Stack-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability that could lead to arbitrary file system write operations, potentially allowing an attacker to modify or corrupt files and compromise system integrity. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction, where a victim must open a malicious file. This could also lead to disclosure of sensitive memory and bypass mitigations such as ASLR.
Recommendations
For After Effects versions 23.6.6, 24.5 and earlier, consider avoiding the use of potentially malicious files until a patch is available.
As a temporary workaround, restrict the ability to write to the file system from within After Effects to minimize the risk of exploitation.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
