CVE-2024-42314

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.50
Description: The issue is related to a use-after-free vulnerability in the btrfs file system. Specifically, at add ra bio pages(), the extent map is accessed to calculate add size after the reference on the extent map has been dropped, resulting in a use-after-free. This is fixed by computing add size before dropping the extent map reference. The vulnerability may allow an attacker to impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information.
Recommendations: To resolve the issue, update to Linux kernel version 6.6.50 or later. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the btrfs file system until the update is applied.
