Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 4.18.0-372.88.1.el8 6 smartpqi test.x86 64
Description:
The vulnerability is related to a blk-mq registration issue in the Linux kernel's scsi: smartpqi driver. When the default PCI IRQ AFFINITY flag is turned off, the driver needs to register with blk-mq using blk mq map queues(). However, the driver is currently calling blk mq pci map queues(), which results in a stack trace and possibly undefined behavior. The vulnerability can be exploited to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations:
To resolve the issue, update the Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix for the scsi: smartpqi driver. Specifically, update to a version later than 4.18.0-372.88.1.el8 6 smartpqi test.x86 64. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
blk mq pci map queues() function until a patch is available.Exploit
