Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58
Description
The issue is related to a race condition between timeout and normal completion in the nbd module of the Linux kernel. This can lead to a use-after-free condition, potentially allowing an attacker to impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information. The vulnerability is caused by the
nbd requeue cmd() function and can be fixed by clearing the NBD CMD INFLIGHT flag and ensuring that cmd->lock is grabbed for clearing the flag and requeueing.Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.58, update to version 6.6.58 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
nbd requeue cmd() function until a patch is available.Exploit
