Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to the btrfs component of the Linux kernel, where device name buffers passed to device replacement are not properly checked for string termination, leading to a potential read out of bounds in getname kernel(). A helper has been added to validate both source and target device name buffers. For devid as the source, the buffer is initialized to an empty string in case something tries to read it later. This could lead to a denial of service.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
