CVE-2022-48664

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 6.0.0-rc2-btrfs-next-122
Description The vulnerability is related to a hang during unmount when stopping a space reclaim worker in the btrfs component of the Linux kernel. This issue can occur when running the generic/562 test from fstests, which creates a large number of 2K files to fill metadata space. The cleaner kthread tries to start a transaction to delete an unused block group, but the metadata reservation cannot be satisfied immediately, leading to a reservation ticket being created and the async metadata reclaim task being started. As a result, the system may hang during unmount.
Recommendations To resolve this issue, update the Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix for the btrfs hang during unmount. Specifically, versions 6.0.0-rc2-btrfs-next-122 and later should include this fix. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the btrfs space reclaim worker or taking other measures to prevent the hang during unmount.
