Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Netgear R7000P version 1.3.3.154
Description
The issue is related to a stack overflow in the
genie pptp.cgi script, specifically via the pptp user netmask parameter. This allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending a crafted POST request to the /genie pptp.cgi endpoint. The vulnerability is due to a lack of input size validation when copying data into a buffer, which can be exploited by a remote attacker.Recommendations
For Netgear R7000P version 1.3.3.154, consider disabling the
genie pptp.cgi script or restricting access to it until a patch is available. Avoid using the pptp user netmask parameter in the affected API endpoint until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Buffer Overflow
