Description
The issue is related to a command injection vulnerability in the
sysNewPasswd parameter at the "admin account.cgi" endpoint. This vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands via a crafted request. The vulnerability exists due to the lack of neutralization of special elements used in the operating system command when processing the sysNewPasswd parameter. Exploitation of the vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands using a specially crafted request.Recommendations
For Netgear R8500 version 1.0.2.160, consider disabling access to the "admin account.cgi" endpoint until a patch is available. Avoid using the
sysNewPasswd parameter in the affected endpoint to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.OS Command Injection
