CVE-2024-27390

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is related to the removal of a synchronize net() barrier in the ipv6 mc down() function in the Linux kernel's ipv6 mcast component. This change was made because the synchronize net() call was deemed unnecessary, as discussed in a past commit. Under load, the synchronize net() function can take between 200 usec and 5 ms. The KASAN (Kernel Address Sanitizer) agrees with this assessment. The vulnerability is associated with resource management errors in the ipv6 mc down() function, which could potentially allow an attacker to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
