CVE-2023-52693

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is related to the ACPI component in the Linux kernel, specifically with the use of an uninitialized resource in the acpi video dev register backlight() function. This can lead to an incorrect, uninitialized acpi parent handle being passed to acpi get pci dev() for detecting the parent PCI device. The problem arises if acpi get parent() fails, for example, due to acpi ut acquire mutex() failing inside acpi get parent(). Exploitation of this issue could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
