Description A command injection issue has been discovered in the wan gateway parameter at the "ether.cgi" endpoint. This allows attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands via a crafted request. The vulnerability is related to the failure to neutralize special elements used in the operating system command when processing the wan gateway parameter. Exploitation of this issue may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands by sending a specially crafted request.
Recommendations For Netgear R8500 version 1.0.2.160, consider disabling access to the "ether.cgi" endpoint until a patch is available. Restrict the use of the wan gateway parameter to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
