| Vector | AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.9.0
Description:
The vulnerability is related to a race condition between the sock map close and sk psock put functions in the Linux kernel. This can cause a null pointer dereference when the refcount of psock reaches zero, leading to a denial of service. The issue can be triggered by creating a socket, adding it to the sock map, and then closing it while another thread is deleting an element from the sock map.
Recommendations:
To resolve this issue, update the Linux kernel to version 6.9.0 or later. If an update is not possible, consider applying a patch that reorders the condition in the sock map close function to avoid the race condition. Additionally, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the sock map close function until a patch is available.
