CVE-2024-38604

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.37
Description: The issue is related to errors in resource management within the blkdev iomap begin() function of the Linux kernel's block component. This could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service. The blkdev iomap begin() function rounds down the offset to the logical block size before checking if it is inside the inode size, and a check has been added to prevent a zero-size write when iter->pos is unaligned.
Recommendations: Update to Linux kernel version 6.6.37 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the vulnerable blkdev iomap begin() function until a patch is available.
