Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux Kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description:
The issue is related to the Linux kernel's handling of PFN mappings, which are special because they lack lifetime information associated with the mapping. This makes it easy to mess up the cleanup in case of errors, potentially leading to stale dangling PTE entries. The problem arises when the physical backing store is freed before the page tables are cleaned up. To mitigate this, it's essential to tear down any partial PFN mapping early, before other error handling. The estimated number of potentially affected devices and details about real-world incidents are not provided.
Recommendations:
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
