Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Mail Disguise module for Backdrop CMS versions prior to 1.x-1.0.5
Description
The issue concerns the Mail Disguise module, which is designed to obfuscate email addresses to prevent spambots from collecting them. However, the module does not sufficiently validate the data attribute value on links, potentially leading to a Cross Site Scripting (XSS) issue. This is mitigated by the requirement for an attacker to be able to insert link () HTML elements containing data attributes into the page.
Recommendations
For Mail Disguise module versions prior to 1.x-1.0.5, update to version 1.x-1.0.5 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the ability for users to insert link () HTML elements containing data attributes into the page to minimize the risk of exploitation.
Fix
XSS
