Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 5.15.120-yocto-s-dirty-bbebc78 #1
Description
A soft lockup issue has been identified in the Linux kernel related to the i2c driver. The issue occurs when the i2c module is in the middle of a transaction and the system reboots, causing the i2c module to keep its status without being reset. As a result, the i2c irq handler continues to be triggered, leading to a soft lockup. The issue is resolved by disabling the interrupt enable bit in the i2c module before calling devm request irq.
Recommendations
To resolve this issue, update the Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix, which disables the interrupt enable bit in the i2c module before calling devm request irq.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the i2c module or restricting its use to minimize the risk of exploitation.
