Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, related to the handling of invalid regulatory hints in the wifi cfg80211 module. The issue occurs when erroneous symbols sent from userspace get through into user alpha2[] via the regulatory hint user() call. These invalid regulatory hints should be rejected. The problem arises due to the way isalpha() works, allowing symbols other than latin lower and upper letters to be used to determine a country/domain, and a call to queue regulatory request() that modifies letters in request->alpha2[] with toupper(), which can malform non-latin characters. This can trigger a warning in is user regdom saved().
