Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.23-lts-next-06236-gb586a521770e
Description
A kernel panic issue has been resolved in the Linux kernel. The problem occurs during the release of firmware in a stress test scenario where WLAN and Bluetooth firmware downloads happen simultaneously. Due to a hardware bug, the chip sends only one bootloader signature, causing the driver to enter firmware download mode but not request the firmware file. After a 60-second timeout, the release firmware function causes a kernel panic.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.23-lts-next-06236-gb586a521770e, update to a version that includes the fix for the kernel panic issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the Bluetooth functionality until a patch is available. Restrict access to the btnxpuart module to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the firmware download functionality in the affected kernel versions until the issue is resolved.
