Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved. The issue is related to the handling of SIOCBRADDIF and SIOCBRDELIF in the dev ioctl() function, which can cause unnecessary RTNL dance and lead to a splat under RTNL pressure. This occurs when two threads, one trying to detach a device from a bridge and the other trying to remove the bridge, interact in a way that causes a race condition. The vulnerability can be exploited when Thread A is trying to detach a device from a bridge and Thread B is trying to remove the bridge, resulting in a situation where Thread B waits for Thread A to release the RTNL lock, which may take long under RTNL pressure.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
