Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.14.0-rc1-next-20250206-xfstests-dirty #726
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, which could cause a hung task if ext4 inode attach jinode() fails in ext4 setattr(). This failure prevents filemap invalidate unlock() from being called to unlock mapping->invalidate lock, leading to an error. The issue can cause a task to become blocked for an extended period, resulting in an "Out of memory" error message.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.14.0-rc1-next-20250206-xfstests-dirty #726, update to a newer version to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
ext4 setattr() function until a patch is available. Additionally, setting "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung task timeout secs" can disable the hung task timeout message.Exploit
