Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions BM Content Builder plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 3.16.2.1
Description The BM Content Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data that can lead to privilege escalation due to a missing capability check on the ux cb tools import item ajax AJAX action. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to update arbitrary options on the WordPress site. This can be leveraged to update the default role for registration to administrator and enable user registration for attackers to gain administrative user access to a vulnerable site.
Recommendations For BM Content Builder plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 3.16.2.1, update to a version that includes a fix for this issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the ux cb tools import item ajax AJAX action until a patch is available. Restrict access to the plugin's functionality to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the plugin until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
