CVE-2022-49769

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, specifically in the gfs2 module. The issue involves the sb bsize shift field, which can be corrupted, leading to messy mount errors due to bad calculations. The field is always a fixed value based on the block size, so it can be checked to ensure it's the expected value. The vulnerability was tested using fuzzers, which scribble over sb bsize shift, and it was found that before the patch, a withdraw occurred with fatal metadata block errors and UBSAN complaints about shift-out-of-bounds. After the patch, the complaints don't appear, and the mount fails immediately with an explanation in dmesg.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
