Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.1.0-rc1
Description
A potential null pointer dereference issue has been identified in the Linux kernel, specifically in the
kprobe event gen test exit() function. This issue occurs when the trace get event file() function fails, and gen kretprobe test is assigned as the error code. If the kprobe event gen test module is removed, a null pointer dereference will happen in kprobe event gen test exit(). To prevent this, it is necessary to check if gen kprobe test or gen kretprobe test is an error code or null before dereferencing them.Recommendations
To resolve this issue, update the Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
kprobe event gen test exit() function until a patch is available.Exploit
