CVE-2022-49839

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 6.1.0-rc1+ #174
Description A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, specifically in the scsi transport sas module. The issue occurs when transport add device() fails in sas phy add(), causing the kernel to crash when trying to delete the device in transport remove device() called from sas remove host(). This results in a kernel NULL pointer dereference. The vulnerability is resolved by checking and handling the return value of transport add device() in sas phy add().
Recommendations To resolve the issue, update the Linux kernel to a version later than 6.1.0-rc1+ #173. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the sas phy add() function until a patch is available. Restrict access to the scsi transport sas module to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the transport add device() function in the affected API endpoint until the issue is resolved.
