Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Ask Me Anything (Anonymously) plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.6
Description
The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's 'askmeanythingpeople' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes, such as
attributes from users. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page, potentially through API endpoints like "/wp-admin/admin.php" or "/wp-content/plugins/".Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 1.6, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the 'askmeanythingpeople' shortcode until a patch is available.
Restrict access to pages that use the 'askmeanythingpeople' shortcode to minimize the risk of exploitation.
