CVE-2024-12859

CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions BoomBox Theme Extensions plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.8.0
Description The issue allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to include and execute arbitrary files on the server via the type attribute of the boombox listing shortcode. This enables the execution of any PHP code in those files, which can be used to bypass access controls, obtain sensitive data, or achieve code execution in cases where PHP file types can be uploaded and included.
Recommendations For versions up to, and including, 1.8.0, consider disabling the boombox listing shortcode until a patch is available to prevent the inclusion and execution of arbitrary files. Restrict access to the type attribute of the boombox listing shortcode to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the type attribute in the boombox listing shortcode until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
