Description
A missing authentication for a critical function in Fortinet products may allow an attacker with knowledge of an existing admin account to bypass authentication and gain administrative privileges. The issue affects systems configured to use TACACS+ with ASCII authentication. It is estimated that over 6.6 million services may be affected by this issue.
Recommendations
For FortiProxy versions 7.6.0 through 7.6.1, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
For FortiSwitchManager version 7.2.5, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
For FortiOS versions 7.4.4 through 7.4.6 and version 7.6.0, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the TACACS+ authentication mechanism to minimize the risk of exploitation.
