CVE-2025-38055

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, which was causing a segfault when using PEBS-via-PT with a sample frequency instead of a sample period. The issue occurred because the intel pmu pebs event update no drain() function assumed all pebs enabled bits represented counter indexes, which is not always the case. Specifically, bits 60 and 61 are set for PEBS-via-PT purposes. The behavior of PEBS-via-PT with sample frequency is questionable, as a PMI is generated, but the period is not adjusted. The function intel pmu pebs event update no drain() has been fixed by passing the mask of counter bits instead of 'size'.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
